With more than two-thirds of consumers reporting that they use CBD for pain, pain management is the number one reason people use CBD. Cannabis has been used for pain management for as long as it’s been around. In fact, pollen from a marijuana plant was found in a 4200 year-old grave and it’s believed that it was due to it’s pain-relieving power.

Often the pain relief of cannabis is thought to be reserved for the high-THC strains as they are the ones offered medicinally in states where it is legal. THC certainly does have great pain management qualities (as does the slightly less potent delta-8 THC, by the way) but it also acts synergistically with it’s cousin compound, CBD.

The role that using CBD for pain relief plays is well known. A study from 2016 gave three patients experiencing pain rated at an 8 or a 9 (out of 10) CBD-heavy strains of cannabis. These strains varied but they all contained more CBD than THC.

Compared against a placebo, these patients all lowered their score at least down to a 5 after either 30 or 60 days. One man reported being able to cut down his pain medication (Percocet, in this case) down “from four pills per day to three pills per week, on average.”

One reason that CBD helps with pain is because it is a strong anti-inflammatory. As the report mentions, there has been extensive studies done on the power of cannabis to treat the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis in both mice and humans. The report goes on to say “Interestingly, most of the studies on RA and cannabinoids focus on the use of non psychoactive cannabinoids [namely, CBD.]”

Medical evidence aside, the decriminalization of hemp through the Farm Bills has provided us with a flood of personal testimony to the relief that can be found through using CBD for pain. If you can’t take the word of a 4200 year old skeleton for it, maybe the customers we see every day will be more compelling!

For pain relief, we recommend trying out our Flower or tincture for immediate relief. Or, if your pain is localized, check out one of our amazing topicals which allow you to apply the CBD directly to the inflamed area!
