If you're like most folks, you store your weed in a plastic baggie. But we're here to tell you - your weed deserves better than that!
Proper cannabis keeping is essential to maintain its quality and potency. Here's a few tips we've gathered for you about how to properly store your weed:
Three Important Factors
There are three important things you should keep in mind when storing your weed - darkness, coolness, and dryness:
A dark place to store your weed is best, direct sunlight can degrade the potency of the THC over time.
Storing your weed in a cool place is also important, as high temperatures can also accelerate the decline of your cannabis.
Dryness is crucial because excess humidity can grow mold and mildew on your buds over time. But not too dry - around 50-60% humidity is ideal for storing your weed.
Recommended Storage Methods
Mason Jar
You can't go wrong with storing your buds in the classic mason jar. They're airtight and, depending on the type of glass, can be resistant to light. For example, we sell all of our THCa flower in glass jars!
Try to find a jar that has plenty of air space to allow for air circulation. You don't want to crowd your buds! If you can, use a jar that is made of amber glass. The darker glass color prevents light from coming through.
Vacuum-Seal Bags
If you have access to a vacuum sealer and bags, this is a great choice for storing your cannabis. These remove excess air and moisture, helping to preserve freshness.
The downside is that this method is not as common and you may have to purchase a vacuum sealer if you choose this route.
Boveda Humidity Packs
Boveda packs are humidity control packs designed to regulate moisture levels. They're often used for storing cannabis, cigars, and tobacco. These can be a great option if where you live is a bit on the dryer side.
These can help regulate humidity and keep your buds at optimal moisture!
Boveda packs come in various humidity levels, allowing you to choose the ideal percentage for your specific needs. You just simply place the humidity pack in your storage container.
Cannabis Humidors
For those with a taste for the finer things, you can also purchase cannabis humidors like you'd use for cigars. Cannador is a reputable brand that makes specialty humidors just for cannabis.
Their humidors double as cannabis humidors and stash boxes. They come with airtight and ventilated lids as well as humidity control systems.
Some Additional Storage Tips
Grinding cannabis before you store it can expose it to more oxygen, leading to faster degradation. Grind only what you need and leave the rest of the buds intact. Also, avoiding plastic storage is best.
Plastic containers can absorb odors and may release chemicals that can affect the quality of your cannabis. You can also inspect your stored cannabis for signs of mold, mildew, or discoloration.
Remember: while proper storage can help prolong the shelf life of your weed, it's still a perishable item. For the best cannabis experience, consume it within a few months of purchase!
